2021.5 Mazda CX-5 vs. 2022 Kia Sportage: More Style and Substance

The Mazda CX-5 has always been a step ahead when it comes to performance, style and technologies. It offers plenty of interior space and comfort, while providing the best in terms of refinement and safety. Mazda is giving CX-5 even more this year with the 2021.5 enhancements. More interior equipment and standard features are on the menu.

Here, we compare the 2021.5 Mazda CX-5 to the 2022 Kia Sportage.

The 2021.5 Mazda CX-5 offers a safer, more refined interior

While the 2022 Kia Sportage lags behind in the technology department with a small 8-inch infotainment screen on every model that features a poorly designed infotainment system, the 2021.5 CX-5 features a 10.25-inch display screen that includes updated Mazda Connect software with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability.

The Kia Sportage uses budget-friendly materials and seating that offers very limited comfort. The Mazda CX-5, on the other hand, features a carefully crafted interior with upscale textures and refined materials that resemble those found in luxury SUVs.

Every CX-5 is now equipped with the full i-Activsense safety package which includes technologies like Smart City Brake Support Front, Advanced Blind Spot Monitoring, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Pedestrian Detection, Lane-keep Assist System, Lane Departure Warning System, and more.

The 2021.5 Mazda CX-5 provides more power and torque

The CX-5 lineup is about performance and enjoyment at the wheel. It all starts with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder that generates 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. All Sportage models except the top grade feature a 2.4-litre four-cylinder that outputs less, with 181 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque.

Next, the CX-5 offers the most powerful engine of the comparison, with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged unit that outputs up to 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. The Sportage has a 2.0-litre turbo in its lineup, but it peaks at 237 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.

The CX-5 pushes the boundaries in terms of handling thanks to standard G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC Plus) and available i-Activ AWD.

The Mazda CX-5 is made for those who love the drive, but also appreciate the refinement and comfort of a high-tech SUV. Come and see it in our showroom today. You can also shop for your car online with us. Our representatives are waiting for your call and can answer all your questions.
