2021 Mazda CX-5 vs. 2021 Hyundai Tucson: The CX-5 Offers More Style, Performance, and Safety

Mazda's family of SUVs are on the forefront of style in their segment while making driving fun again. The CX-5 is a compact model that brings out the best of this fresh approach. Two powertrains offer standard and exhilarating turbo power and more equipment to personalize your driving experience.

Here, we compare the CX-5 to the 2021 Hyundai Tucson.

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 makes spirited driving possible

The CX-5's available powertrains are ready for virtually any road. Four models include a 2.5-litre four-cylinder that outputs 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. That will help you find the right place on a busy highway or just take a quiet, cross-country ride. However, the CX-5 features an even better option we will cover after we mention the Tucson.

The Hyundai Tucson also includes two powertrains in its lineup, but they do not catch up with the CX-5. A 2.0-litre four-cylinder generates 160 horsepower in three grade levels. Remaining models receive a 2.4-litre four-cylinder that produces 181 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque.

The best powertrain out of any in this comparison is the CX-5's 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that produces up to 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. If you want to change the way you experience driving, this is the powertrain to experience. For a more personalized driving experience, models with the turbocharged engine receive paddle shifters.

The CX-5 and Tucson include a six-speed automatic transmission with all powertrains. However, the CX-5 features manual-shift mode and a Drive Selection switch.

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 adds safety and versatility

The CX-5 also earns something the Tucson hasn't--an IIHS 2021 Top Safety Pick + designation. It earns the highest available rating for front crash prevention and overall crashworthiness.

While you feel safer inside, the CX-5 offers comforts and versatility. Rear seat passengers enjoy more leg room than the Tucson. Both vehicles include similar cargo volume capacities, but you will travel in more sophistication inside the CX-5.

Moreover, the CX-5 uses upscale materials and textures that you will find in luxury crossovers, which is a refreshing characteristic compared to the more budget-oriented materials found in the Tucson.
