2021 Mazda CX-5 vs. 2021 Nissan Rogue: When You Want More Out of Your SUV

Mazda's family of SUVs reinvigorates the appreciation for style and refinements that bring the fun back to driving. The CX-5 is a five-seat, compact model that emphasizes these traits and more. Two generous powertrains offer more choices, and advanced technologies boost performance and safety. The interior offers a luxurious look and feel for up to five passengers.

The CX-5 has made the competition nervous about its strengths. Here, we compare it to the 2021 Nissan Rogue to help illustrate how the CX-5 stands out.

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 has the best powertrain for you

Mazda includes two powertrains in the CX-5 model family for the 2021 model year. Four models include a 2.5-litre four-cylinder that produces 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. The Rogue offers a single engine that generates 181 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque, which is slightly less than the CX-5's non-turbo selection.

But if you need more to be impressed, the CX-5 boosts capability with a turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder that outputs up to 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. This is a standard feature on the Signature and 100 grades and optional with the GT. The great response will bring a smile to your face, and the extra power ensures that a full load of passengers and cargo don't hold back the CX-5.

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 extends the science of driving

The CX-5 upholds its promise of a responsive and engaging driving experience with the choice of unique technologies. For example, the Mazda CX-5 is fitted with a performance-oriented 6-speed automatic transmission that deploys quick and seamless shifting. The Nissan Rogue, on the other hand, uses a continuously variable transmission that can severely handicap driving pleasure.

The available i-Activ AWD system also plays its part in the CX-5's handling and agility. It reads road conditions 280 times per second, enabling it to predict changes and make proactive torque adjustments to increase safety and performance. It also works closely with other performance systems such as the included G-Vectoring Control system.

Inside, the CX-5 offers better finishing than the Rogue, but it also features more technology, connectivity, comfort, and room. It even has more rear legroom than the Rogue.
